Dr. Ken Elliot

Note:  Dr. Ken Elliot was kidnapped on January 16, 2016.  Please join us in praying for his safe and soon return.

When you look at a map of West Africa, Burkina Faso is nestled between Mali and Niger to the north and Ivory Coast to the south. Djibo lies on the western edge of the dry, dusty Sahel Region of this small African nation. This remote town is home to the Friends of Burkina Faso Medical Clinic. The clinic/hospital serves the northern region of the country, and people travel for treatment/surgery from as far away as Ivory Coast. The clinic was built by Dr. Ken Elliot and his wife, Jocelyn. Dr. Elliot has practiced medicine, more specifically, surgery, in Djibo for 40 years. In obedience to God's direction, Ken and Jocelyn left their extended family in Australia, and brought their children to live in this region to enhance the lives of people. In the peak season, Dr. Elliot will perform 150 surgeries per month and fill the 120 bed facility to capacity. The hospital operates, as it has for the past 40 years, by faith - without a source of financial sponsorship.kensurgery

The hospital compound is 300 by 250 meters and along with the clinic/hospital and surgical center, contains 6 houses, an outreach/training center, and fabrication/maintenance building. All the buildings were designed and constructed by Dr. Elliot. kimcaring

Dr. Elliot, having worked as the only Medical Doctor at the clinic for the past 40 years, has a need for additional medical staff including general practitioners, an orthopedic surgeon, and trained nursing staff. In reflecting on his years of serving this region, Dr. Elliot made the statement "I believe this clinic is here because God loves people." The Institute's goal is to help locate the needed personnel which will allow the needs of this region to continue to be met, because we agree with Dr. Elliot... "God loves people."
